  • What is counseling?
Counseling is a process that involves spending time with a trained mental health professional within a caring and collaborative relationship. Counseling focuses on experiences, feelings, thoughts, relationships, and/or behaviors. The end goal of this process is to help improve different aspects of a client's life from the inside out.
  • Do I need therapy?
Counseling is for anyone and everyone. Everyone goes through challenging situations, and while you may have navigated difficulties, there is nothing wrong with seeking out extra support when you need it. In fact, counseling is for people who realize they need a helping hand, which is a strength to be recognized.
  • What can counseling do for me?
The benefits of counseling can vary and greatly depend on what you want to get out of it. Counseling is a collaborative process that is guided by the goals you have. These goals include learning coping skills, accomplishing life goals, changing behaviors, or general goals like building better relationships, improving communication, or identifying and addressing stress and difficult emotions. Many of life’s challenges are things that you can overcome on your own. However, a little extra support can go a long way. Counseling is an excellent resource for support when those who know us the best do not understand or know the hardships you face.
  • What is counseling like?
Counseling is different for everyone. In general, you can expect to discuss the current events happening in your life, your history, and even progress from previous therapy sessions. Depending on your specific needs, counseling can be short-term or long-term, based on your desire and need for more personal development and growth. You get what you put into counseling. It is important to remember that you will get more results from the therapy process if you actively and intentionally participate. Counseling is essentially rehearsal. How the show plays out is ultimately up to you. Our goal is to help you apply what you’ve learned from your sessions to your everyday life.
  • How will counseling start?
Your initial sessions will consist of a thorough diagnostic assessment and treatment planning. This phase is the “ice breaker” and “getting to know you” meetings. These sessions are vital to treatment. We have to know the problem to treat it. Be prepared for a question and answer period and then goal exploration. Counseling is a collaboration between client and counselor so we would love and WANT to hear your input.
  • Will what we talk about in therapy be confidential?
Legally, we can’t blab about your business, nor do we want to. The relationship between counselor and client is grounded in trust, so we take confidentiality seriously. You can expect that what you discuss in sessions will not be shared with anyone outside of legal and ethical bounds.
  • What is your cancellation policy?
If you need to cancel your session, sure thing! We understand that unexpected emergencies may happen. However, it is important that clients cancel their session or reschedule within 24 hours' prior notice. Otherwise, there may be a $75 late cancel/no-show fee. A scheduled session is both an available time slot for clients in need and a time commitment for everyone involved.
  • What insurances do you accept?
Accepted insurance plans: Blue Cross Blue Shield BlueCross and BlueShield Buckeye CareSource Cigna Humana Medicaid Medical Mutual Molina Paramount UnitedHealthcare While we do accept several insurance plans, it is ultimately up to clients to ensure that they are insured — see what we did there? You may want to verify your coverage for psychotherapy services with your insurance company.
  • What if I don't have insurance or my insurance is not covered?
That's okay! We do accept self-pay clients and we also offer a sliding scale on a first come first serve basis.
  • How does payment work?
We accept cash, check and all major credit cards as forms of payment or Venmo.
